Hi Duyanh,

What is the error message that you get in NowSMS?

Also, are you connecting to the modem directly via a COM port reference in NowSMS, or are you connecting through a named modem driver?

If you are connecting through a direct COM port reference, NowSMS will try to automatically detect the correct speed. (I haven't seen any problems with this speed detection, except that some earlier versions of NowSMS did not support 115200 bps for the direct COM port connection and would only go as high as 57600.)

If you are connecting through a named Windows modem driver, then NowSMS will use the port speed that is specified in the modem driver configuration.

So you might want to try both approaches. For the named Windows modem driver, define a modem under Phone & Modem Options in the Windows Control Panel. Make sure that under Modems/Properties/Diagnostics that the "Query Modem" function can properly detect the modem. That will improve the chances of NowSMS initialising the modem correctly.

Hi Bryce,

I connect through a direct COM port and NowSMS cannot dectect the correct speed (I'm using Maestro 100 Modem - 115200 bps, NowSMS ver 5.50).

Thanks for supporting

Duyanh,

What is the error message from NowSMS?

What if you install a modem driver in Windows for the modem? I should have mentioned in my previous post that if you do not have a modem driver, the Standard 33600 bps Modem Driver is a good one to use. (Don't worry about the 33600 speed, the modem driver actually talks to the modem at 115200.)

Hi Bryce,

The error message from NowSMS is "Unable to access modem, ensure that it is powered on and passes diagnostic tests."

I didnot install a modem driver for the Maestro 100 modem. I connect NowSMS to this modem through a direct COM port.(I used HyperTerminal to connect this modem at 115200 bps that's ok) What should I do?

Thanks for supporting,

Duyanh

That error message normally suggests that we can't open the COM port. But it looks like it also happens if we can't negotiate a speed on a direct COM port access.

Try installing the Standard Modem Driver 33600 for that modem, and try accessing the modem through that driver instead.
