Hello Everyone, Does NOWSMS support sometype of wap push or multimedia wap push services to Blackberry and Android devices? Looking to offer Wallpapers and Blackberry/Android Apps to customers and was wondering if NOWSMS supports this in anyway shape or form. Howard

Hi Howard, When it comes to WAP Push, the iPhone is usually the problem, as it doesn't support "Service Indication" push, which is what most of us think of as a WAP Push message. (MMS also uses WAP Push, but a different content type.) Of course, there are also issues if you are in a market that has a mix of GSM and CDMA handsets, like North America, where WAP Push is simply not practical. For these scenarios, we generally recommend using text messages with dynamically generated links. The "Multimedia WAP Push" feature in NowSMS has gradually evolved into simply "Multimedia Push" or "Multimedia Content Push". From the web form, if you select "Message Type" = "Text SMS", NowSMS generates a dynamic URL link and sends it out in the text of the message. It's not as pretty as WAP Push, but when you're limited to standard text messages, it's the only viable option. There is some more explanation of how to specify this option for programmatic submission at the following link: http://www.nowsms.com/sending-multimedia-content-push-messages-with-nowsms Note that if you are using this functionality, you most likely want to enable the setting to more quickly expire these dynamically generated links. This is explained in the following discussion: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/11180.html -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Howard, NowSMS configuration files (including SMSGW.INI and MMSC.INI) are normally found in the ProgramData\NowSMS directory. (If you are running under Windows XP, they are found under Program Files\NowSMS) -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des, How do i configure the MMSC, to be able to edit the MMSC.INI file, as i stated i will be using Clickatell to send messages?

Hi Howard, Clickatell settings can be found here.http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/136.html The MMSC component of NowSMS is configured on the MMSC page of the configura tion. MMSC.INI is created automatically on first configuration. The MMSC component is used for this type of content push, as dynamic URLs fo r the content are created on the MMSC. Note that this requires that the MMS C HTTP port be Internet accessible to allow clients to connect and retrieve c ontent. The MMSC is a special type of web server. The "Local Host Name o r IP Address" setting must be an external host name or IP address through wh ich clients can connect to this server, as the URLs in sent text messages wi ll reference this host name. >

Hi Des, I don't see any settings for the MMSC on the following link and i don't know about using an external host name or IP address. Guess i will just have to stick to wap push, because the other option is just too complicated at the moment. Currently i can't send text to the US because of the Clickatell restrictions etc, so maybe just using wap push will be fine.

Maybe you have NowSMS Lite, which does not have these MMSC options. Note that I have fixed a broken link in the message above to correct the link pointing to Clickatel settings. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des, So the best option would be to get a static ip address or get a gsm modem that supports sending mms messages?

Hi Howard, It really depends on your overall project plan. If you anticipate sending large volumes of messages in the future, a modem may not be able keep pace. In this case, if you have to deal with a service provider, MMS can be expensive. MMS can also be difficult if you need to provide international service as there are not as many interoperability agreements for MMS in place as there are for SMS. SMS is cheaper. If a static IP address is a concern, it's actually quite easy to get around that limitation by using the services of no-ip.com or dyndns.org. I've used both in the past. They have some software that loads on your machine and that connects out to their service whenever your IP changes so that they can route the DNS name to your changed IP address. -- Des NowSMS Support

Hi Des, Thank you for all the info, just wish NOWSMS had some kind of php/mysql script where i could install it on a hosting web-server, because i don't have a dedicated server or i wouldn't want to be using my computer as one.

Hi, I just tested wap push on the Blackberry and i'm sad to say, it didn't work, it said Wap Push Alert with a little globe in the messages folder, but the downside is it revealed the url link.

It sounds like it worked, just not like you want it to. Unfortunately, the WAP Push Service Indication user interface is awkward on many phones, and is not often seen by users. This is one of the reasons that I think the link from a text message is a better alternative for more of these types of situations. -- Des NowSMS Support |
