Hi Bryce,
How do you configure nowsms to send SMS over GPRS?
Can it be done using the nowsms v5.0?

thank you

If you are using a GSM-modem.
Then you'll need to config this on your GSM.

It's not a config in NowSMS.

Bryce, tell me if I'm wrong

Hi Shumie,
My modem is a class 10 GPRS modem. You mean I have to configure the modem itself? If it is so, any pointer as to how/where do I start?

thank you

Take a look at the manual.

What is the manufactor and model of the GPRS modem?

Hi Kath,

I'm not as familiar with the Wavecom setup, so there may be an easier way of doing this than what I suggest here, as generally it would be part of the modem setup (on the other hand, this approach will work with various different devices).

To use this trick, you need to have a Windows modem driver associated with the modem. If you don't already have one defined, you can define one manually in the "Phone and Modem Options" area of the Windows Control Panel. Any of the "Standard" or "Generic" modem types should be sufficient.

Once you have a modem driver defined, go to the "Modems" tab of the "Phone and Modem Options" dialog in the Windows Control Panel. Select "Properties" for the appropriate modem driver. Under "Advanced", add the following as an "Extra initialization command": AT+CGSMS=2

This sends a command to the modem that tells it to use GPRS for SMS, if available.

I'd suggest comparing sending speeds before and after to see if it makes a difference ... and also whether or not your SMS messages are still being sent out. (Not every mobile operator supports SMS over GPRS ... and some have support partially implemented where the modem can submit the SMS message over GPRS but it disappears into the ether.)
