Hi,

I need an inexpensive solution enabling me to receive huge amount of sms messages/responses. (> 1000)

Technically/realistically, could I make use of my Nokia 8850 over IR with 'Now SMS/MMS Gateway v5.0' for such task? I'm only prepare to invest in a GSM/GPRS modem (WaveCom FastTrack) if it is totally necessary.

My concern is "Can the mobile phone/gateway handle
such surge of incoming messages?"

Performance is not a priority as long as all messages are captured.

I need some advice. Thanks in advance.

Hi Clifton,

I don't have any specific experience with using the Nokia 8850 as a modem, but I would expect the gateway to be able to receive SMS messages over an infrared based upon the device specifications.

The question is really how quickly these 1000 messages are received ... and how fast the phone actually allows the gateway to retrieve and remove the messages from the phone.

You'd want to run some tests before deploying anything.

In general, the dedicated modem devices tend to be better able to keep up with higher volumes, but I have had some good experience with some Nokia phones in this area (6210 and 7110).
