Hello, my problem is I'm sending WAP push URL to a phone (Motorola L6 And Nokia ) but getting the WAP push as regular SMS , I'm sending the WAP push to the nowSMS via a kannel. the nowSMS log is: 2006-09-18 12:56:12,450EC002.req,55.44.44.30,+XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,OK -- Nokia 6230 USB Modem,SubmitUser=nir;Sender=13013;Binary=1;UDH=060504138823F0;Data=683A1DAE7BBDD 6E9F9BD2C9EB9C2F8F4BCFD16A7D965D7F8DD7EB5CBF379F89C769F23E1F9AB1D9ECFDB61391D8E7 EBBCBF2B29B5C9697E5F3B2DCCE2ED37FE6B77C5CEE99C3EC79D9D49EA7E76477AF769BC564351C2 E27CBE14CF0F07CDE8BC96634533D4DEEC560B41A Can you have an idea why its happen like this ? Thanks

Hi, It looks like the DCS value is not set to an appropriate binary value (F5 is normal, though some service providers require you to use 4). What happens if you submit a WAP Push via the NowSMS web interface? Does that work correctly? Assuming the WAP Push through the web interface works correctly, then the problem with your other attempt is that the DCS value is not getting set ... but unfortunately, I don't have enough details to understand how you are submitting the push, so I can't advise exactly how to correct. (I assume you are using HTTP, in which case you would add &DCS=F5 to the URL.) -bn

well...... i did try this as well but the result was '????L' on the phpone and NOT wap push . the nowSMS log is : 2006-09-18 13:13:31,450ED3B7.req,127.0.0.1,XXXXXXXXXXXXXX,OK -- Nokia 6230 USB Modem,SubmitUser=nir;Binary=1;DCS=F5;UDH=0605040B8423F0;Data=B70601AE02056A0045C 60C037761702E676F6F676C652E636F6D00070103676F6F676C65000101 2006-09-18 13:19:45,450ED52E.req,127.0.0.1,XXXXXXXXXXXXxx,OK -- Nokia 6230 USB Modem,SubmitUser=nir;Binary=1;DCS=4;UDH=0605040B8423F0;Data=B70601AE02056A0045C6 0C037761702E676F6F676C652E636F6D00070103676F6F676C65000101 as you can see i sent both DCS = F5 and 4 but the WAP push was not arriving as WAP push only as regular text OR '????L' Thanks

Ok. But I also want you to answer the question that I asked: What happens if you submit a WAP Push via the NowSMS web interface? Does that work correctly?

I don't know why this would be ... unless it is a limitation of your mobile operator. (Who is the mobile operator? I can search to see if we have had any past experience with GSM modems on that operator.) Windows language isn't an issue, we have customers using all kinds of different languages. You've tried with DCS=F5, and you've also tried with DCS=4 ... and changing the DCS value is usually the only exception that is required in some environments. Are both the GSM modem and the receiving phone using SIM cards from the same operator (in some environments there is no binary SMS interoperability cross-carrier, this is especially an issue in the US). The only other thing that I can think of trying is to configure the GSM modem in NowSMS to also receive messages. Send a WAP Push from the NowSMS web interface to the phone number of the modem itself. Usually, when using a phone as the modem, the phone would intercept the WAP Push message and not forward it over the GSM modem interface ... but in this case, since the push is getting corrupted in-transit, I expect it will come back in over the GSM modem interface. I'd like to see an SMSDEBUG.LOG showing this message being sent, and being received back into the system. (Enable the SMSDEBUG.LOG via a checkbox on the "Serial #" page.) Unfortunately, I don't think this exercise will lead to a solution to the problem. I expect that it will only confirm to us that the message is getting corrupted in-transit. (I expect we'll see that the UDH flag is getting lost.) And if it is getting corrupted in-transit, I can't think of anything that we can do to resolve the issue. The Nokia 6230 works fine as a GSM modem, and there are no limitations for it to send WAP Push messages. So I'm thinking it is a network issue. I do recall one tech support incident a couple of years ago, where there was a similar problem with a different modem. I think they were in Canada. In that case, using a different SIM card made a difference ... I have no explanation for why it would make a difference (because I do not see how it could), but for them it did.

well.... first thank you for the answer. as you mention we did almost all the tests except changeing operator ( we di dchanged SIMs from regular one to only DATA one and it didn't help as well ). the operator is Comcel in Columbia - maybe you ave detials on him . I did try to bookmark from phone to phone and it also arrived as regular SMS (with no nowSMS in the middle , Sorry ;-) ) but the result was - regular SMS with an option to "go to" - probebly since we sned it with http://..... but its not Binary SMS . well......my guess is also the operator ( if you have any information - that will be gr8 ) Thanks for you help

I haven't found any referneces to Comcel in any of my records. Here is another idea. Do you have any SonyEricsson phones? The SMS client in those phones support EMS, which is another type of binary SMS messaging. When you compose an SMS on one of those phones, you can insert animations into the message which should be visible if you send the message to another phone that supports EMS (or to yourself). Nokia phones don't support EMS ... but most other vendors do. You could also try a Motorola phone where you can easily insert a pre-defined sound into an SMS. I'm just curious whether one phone can send another phone a binary SMS message. -bn |
