I am trying to send SMS with the SMPT feature and I noticed that when the message exceeds the 180 characters instead of showing the \r\n as a new line, the message contains the characters “\r\n”.

Is there a size limit for the message in order I can include the new line characters (\r\n)?

Hi,

Hmm .... I didn't think we supported "\r\n" as replacement characters for new line indicators in the SMTP interface at all.

This was only implemented for the HTTP/Web interface.

However, it looks like the way this was implemented, it also had the side effect of working for e-mail to SMS as long as the message was GSM text characters only (no Unicode), and less than 160 characters.

If the message was longer than 160 characters, or contained Unicode characters outside of the GSM character set, then "\r\n" would stay in the text.

We can add support for the "\r\n" escape characters in the e-mail to SMS interface. However, with the current development cycle, it is likely to be a few weeks.

I will post a follow-up when this is addressed.

For right now, I can only confirm that "\r\n" will work as escape characters for a new line in the e-mail to SMS interface ONLY if the message contains GSM text characters only and is less than 160 characters.

It appears that I forgot to post a follow-up regarding this.

This was addressed in an interim update. For a version that includes this update, you can download http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms2009.zip.
