I try send via web interface, when i type characters below 126 char, it is send normally, but when i type more than 126 char, it is hangs my modem. What's going on?

I'm using Sierra Aircard 875 (tried in 2 different card, 1 from AT&T (voice disabled) and 1 from Cingular (voice enabled)) got the same problem.

I've tried in more than 2 computers with same problem.

But when i use another software with that modems (Sierra 3G watcher, ozeki message server, Kylix Activex) it is sends normal even more than 1000 characters.

When i try using another modem (china made phone) it doesn't problem with long SMS, but i prefer using dedicated PCMCIA modem.

Here this my debug.log attached.

Thank you for support.

I also tried different SMS storage settings (Default,Device,Direct to Modem) with no luck, and for SMS Access is GSM (my provider only support GSM).

Also tried add manual config in SMSGW.INI as described in manual (OldModemHandler,ModemSendDelay,DisableDeliveryReceipt,LongTextDCS,LongSMSTextEn coding)
with no luck.

Thanks.

Hi,

A quick question ... what operating system?

I can't recall seeing anything like this before.

And I've just run a few tests with an Sierra 860 and an 881, and I don't see any problems.

Lots of folks use the 875, and if this were a common problem, I'd expect to have seen it before.

That said, I've got an idea that I'm discussing with one of our engineers. In the meantime, I'm wondering if we should be looking at a specific OS version.

Follow-up ...

We'd like to test a theory. The fact that you run into a problem when you try sending a message larger than a certain size suggests that we may be overrunning a buffer in the modem driver.

Could you try the updated version of NowSMS available for download at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms20081124.zip, and see if that can get past this particular problem?

Confirmed: Problem Solved with latest version you gave.

It is now able to send even more than thousand chars with my Sierra Aircard 875!

Thanks.

But, just curious what happened in previous version in my case? is there any workaround for this? (if not upgrading)

NowSMS is very good in my testing and fulfill nearly all my requirements for sms gateway (except some feature like, automatically drop voice call, send and receive USSD messages (balance check), and performs custom AT command), but the price is far out of our budget. Is there any stripped down version to cut the price? We need sms gateway that able to send about 30 message per minute but in much lower price.

Thanks anyway.

That is extremely good news. I am wondering if this might help some others who are experiencing somewhat more random problems with other modems.

We are still testing this change with other modems to make sure that it does not cause other problems, or that it does not cause any performance problems ... and to verify proper error handling.

So I'm not completely sure what this change means yet. It was an update to the logic that communicates with the modem, so the change is very specific to this update. However, there is some question as to why this change would make a difference. We need to find a modem with which we can recreate the problem in order to better understand, then we'll better understand.

I've forwarded this thread to my boss to see if there are any pricing options to explore.
