This is the first I've heard of it, but I'll keep my ears open for more information. A few initial thoughts ... I guess the good news is that the messaging in the USA will benefit greatly from premium rate short codes that work across all of the major operators. I'm very excited to see significant progress being made on that front. And the pricing might be ok for premium rate, but I want to see what the revenue share % looks like ... more information is definitely required there. The bad news is the non-premium rate pricing, just to be able to send messages. It makes GSM modems a much more attractive option for the small guys, or for applications with limited messaging needs. (T-Mobile charging 5 cents per message, with the ability to add 1000 per month to your plan for $6.99 looks pretty attractive.) Using an alpha originator is an ideal solution for applications that do not require 2-way messaging ... so enforcing the use of a registered short code is awkward. Despite the pricing ... how soon before the supply of short codes is exhausted? From what I have seen so far in the US, you're looking at 5 digit short codes. 100,000 raw possibilities. Even with this type of pricing, how soon before they are all allocated? -bn | |||

Yeah I guess your right. We will have to wait and see. Glad I got the T-mobile plan with unlimited text messaging the day before the promo ran out. |
