Hi,

I don't have any working knowledge regarding setup of the Anritsu simulator.

I can explain the basic architecture of how NowSMS interfaces with the Anritsu environment. However, I do not know the specific configuration parameters that are required.

If you check with your Anritsu sales contacts, they should be able to get you more specific information.

NowSMS sees the Anritsu simulator as an "HTTP SMSC".

What this means is that when you send an SMS message from the NowSMS web interface, NowSMS will make an HTTP connection to the Anritsu simulator, posting the SMS details.

The Anritsu simulator performs the SMS signaling to deliver the message to the device.

In order to configure the HTTP SMSC connection in NowSMS, you need to have an HTTP template URL that tells NowSMS how to format the HTTP request that is sent to the Anritsu device. This is the information that you need from Anritsu.

If you have documentation on the HTTP interface for sending SMS via the Anritsu, it is not difficult to manually create the template. NowSMS documentation on HTTP SMSC templates can be found here: http://www.nowsms.com/documentation/ProductDocumentation/configuring_smsc_connec tions/HTTP_SMSC.htm

That is how SMS works. And you need to have SMS working before you can test MMS.

For MMS, NowSMS functions as an MMSC.

For the mobile phone to be able to send an MMS message, it needs to be configured with a URL for the MMSC server.

The mobile phone will need to connect to the MMSC via TCP/IP via the Anritsu network simulator.

The MMSC URL will be of the following format:

http://ip:port/number=password

ip is the IP address that the mobile phone uses to connect to the NowSMS MMSC.

port is the "HTTP Port Number" configured on the "MMSC" page of the NowSMS configuration.

number and password are credentials for a user account that must be manually provisioned in the "MMSC Users" page. (In a test environment like this, accounts must be manually provisioned, and devices identify themselves by including user credentials in the MMSC server URL.)

Other configuration settings required on the "MMSC" page of the NowSMS configuration:

"IP Address" - This is best left as "all available".

"Local Host Name or IP Address" should be set as the IP address that the mobile device can use to connect to the MMSC via the Anritsu simulator.

Refer to the following article for more information about how MMS works: http://www.nowsms.com/howmmsworks.htm

Basically, when you send an MMS message to a device, the NowSMS MMSC will build a dynamic URL on the MMSC that contains the MMS message content.

The MMSC will then send an MMS Notification to the mobile phone using WAP Push over SMS. This MMS notification contains the URL that tells the receiving device how to retrieve the MMS message content. The receiving device then retrieves the URL via HTTP (or WSP for WAP1 devices, which also requires a WAP Proxy/gateway).

That is a quick architectural overview. Anritsu should have some documentation that fills in the specifics.

Thanks. what about APN Setting? Because I tried to setting using DNS and its working for SMS, but MMS fail. I think, we need to update APN. Is it right?
Let me know your suggestion. pls

The APN setting is under the realm of the Arnitsu system, as they are emulating the network.

The Arnitsu system should have some documentation on how it supports IP connections from a mobile device.

Make sure there is an IP connectivity path between the mobile device and NowSMS through the Arnitsu. Initially, instead of using a DNS host name for the MMSC, you will probably want to use an IP address. (http://ip:port/number=password)

I'm sure the Arnitsu has the ability to show your IP traffic, but if you're still learning it ... enable the MMSCDEBUG.LOG in NowSMS. If the MMSC is receiving any connection from the mobile device, it will be logged to the MMSCDEBUG.LOG.

Hi,

This sounds like a configuration problem, or an IP connectivity issue.

In NowSMS, look at the MMSC configuration page, and pay particular attention to the "Local Host Name or IP Address" setting. When NowSMS delivers the MMS message to the device, it is going to build a dynamic URL pointer that includes this as the host name part of the URL.

When the receiving device gets the MMS notification, it tries to download from this URL.

The problem you are experiencing is that the device cannot connect to this URL ... usually this is a configuration or network issue indicating that the device cannot resolve the host name or does not have TCP/IP connectivity to the NowSMS server.

Thanks!
I will try to reconfig "Local Host Name or IP Address" property in MMSC configuration page. If that error still appear (or any error), i will ask your help again. (In fact, this is first time i practise with NowSMS and anritsu)
Thks for your advise again!

hi

Finally, i send mms from NowSMS (on external PC) to mobile ( by anritsu) successfull. But sometimes, it's fail (may be because network's problem?!?)

After that, I try to send mms with DRM Rights Format. Below is result :

1. with Foward Lock format : it's run OK, i can't FW to another contact but i can view file normaly.
2. with Restrict Content w/ DRM property is "Yes" (in two case DRM Rights Format is Binary WBXML and Text XML), it has a problem .
I can't view file (image) althought Display (Image) check box was selected . "Access denied" message was display when i click dowloaded file.

Pls, help me!

It's difficult to say when you are in a testing environment like you describe.

I'd suggest you familiarize yourself with the network monitoring/capture tool Wireshark. Use Wireshark to monitor traffic and determine if the HTTP request from the device is even making it to the MMSC.

Basically, the MMS notification that is sent over WAP Push/SMS contains an HTTP URL that points to the message content on the NowSMS MMSC. The device needs to be able to fetch that URL.

One other thing to look at is the NowSMS logs ... specifically the MMSC-yyyymmdd.LOG. If the device requests an HTTP URL from the MMSC, it will be recorded as an "MMSRetrieve" record here.

Do you know for certain that the device supports OMA DRM Combined Delivery?

I have to say that quite a few devices don't support it ...
