Hi Bryce, Recently we are trying to use Now SMS/MMS Gateway 2006. And this version supports MMS V1.2. So I believe this version supports 'MM box' function, but I could not succeed to test the 'MM box' function yet. Would you please inform me how to test the 'MM box' function? ( I do hope to test this... ) If this latest version does not support the 'MM box', would you please inform when to support? Best Regards, | |||

Nambu, MMBox is considered to be "optional" in the MMS 1.2 specification. We have not yet made a decision as to whether or not we will eventually support this functionality. It will depend largely upon whether or not there is customer demand. (We expect that mobile operators will not want MMBox functionality to be supported on their MMSCs, because this adds to storage and maintenance requirements at the operator without a clear benefit. We see that MMBox functionality could be useful for corporate systems, but it will not be useful for these systems unless phones can be configured to communicate with 2 or more MMSCs simultaneously, which noone seems to be addressing.) -bn | |||

Certainly MMBox is not mandatory function in the MMS 1.2. But we do hope to test MMBox function, so we do hope to have a server that supports this. Because we have a mobile model phone named 702NK that is for vodafone japan and is customized from Nokia6630, and this mobile phone always requests the MMBox operation. We need to test MMS with this UE, so we need the MMBox function. And there are not so many mobile phones that support MMS1.2 yet, but we believe the number of mobile phones that support MMS1.2 will be increasing. That is why we do hope and wish Now SMS/MMS gateway software supports the MMBox function. | |||

Hi Nambu, Yes, we anticipate most of the requests for this functionality would come from testing areas. To be honest, it would really speed our ability to implement this type of capability if we had access to a device that supported MMBox. I notice that the Vodafone Japan version of the SonyEricsson V800, the V802SE, also has MMBox support. If you can help us get one of these devices to test with, then that would be extremely helpful. The only trick is that we'd need an unlocked phone that we could use on a different network ... and based upon a quick search of the internet it looks like it is very difficult (if not impossible) to unlock the 702NK. But a V802SE might be easier to get unlocked. I'd be interested in hearing about any other devices with this support that we might be able to get for testing. -bn | |||
