I purchased Nowsms v2006.03.09 and I'm trying to enable system alerts, but I see that all the alerts get stuck in MMSCOUT folder.

Hi Walter,

Do you have the MMSC service enabled?

There can also be a problem where the MMSC service won't start if its configured "HTTP Port Number" cannot be allocated.

If that's not it, then there's a DNS problem, and the MMSC is not able to perform DNS lookups for routing the e-mail alerts.

If you UNcheck "Enable SMTP Smart Mailer", and define your mail server as the "SMTP Relay Host", then the MMSC won't do its own DNS lookups, and will just route all pending e-mail via your mail server.

Hi Bryce,
I don't have the Smart Mailer Enable. I have specified a SMTP Relay Host.

I also think MMSC service is enabled because I see 2 new processes running (mmscnt and mmsc).

What else could I check?

This is an example of a file waiting on MMSCOUT.

Hi Walter,

Maybe the SMTP relay host is not accepting the messages?

Enable the MMSCDEBUG.LOG, and that should show us some details.

Hi Bryce,
The problem was the HTTP port. As soon as I changed it I started to receive system alerts at my email.

Thanks,

I also configured a 2 way command to send SMS to E-mails. That works fine if I use
mailto: walter@cen.com, but if I use mailto:@@SMSPREFIX@@ I don’t know why but the ”@ “ that I’m sending in the message gets turn too a “¡”.

In smsdebug I see:
16:40:26:156 [7] ThreadProcessInboundSMS: Executing mailto: walter¡cen.com.

The strange thing is that when NOWSMS replies saying “ Invalid e-mail recipient: walter@cen.com. Please specify a valid e-mail address to start the text of your message”. The e-mail come correct

Hi Walter,

Ok. We do need to do a better job warning about port conflicts and problems.

The "@" vs. "¡" issue is a common issue if you are using an SMPP connection.

It usually means that you need to go into the "Properties" for the SMPP connection (on the SMSC page), and under "Advanced Settings", change the "SMSC Character Set" to "iso-8859-1 (Latin)".

Thanks Bryce the Latin character set fixed that problem.

I'm now able to send sms to email, but I have a few little problems sending email to sms.
1. When the email has more than 160 characters I don’t receive the message at the mobile phone (Me SMSC only supports 160 Character). Is there a way that I could specify how many characters are to be accepted from the arriving email. Example only take the first 150 characters form email (Subject/text) to sms messages before sending to SMPP connection.

2. Email to sms messages are been assign any sender address that I have specify for SMS Users. I want to be able to specify a specific sender address to all email to sms messages. Example: I want that all email to sms messages arrive at mobile phone with sender address as 6245.

Hi Walter,

Apologies for the time delay.

1.) On the "MMSC" page, set "Max SMS messages per e-mail" to 1. This limits it to what will fit in a single SMS message (160 characters standard text or 70 characters Unicode).

2.) It's not possible today. We do have an enhancement that is still in our development queue that could facilitate this, but I don't yet know when this feature will be ready.

Bryce, do you have an idea of when this enhancement will be released?

Hi Walter,

Yes, it was in the latest patch.

The most recent newsletter has a link to a discussion board thread that discusses it. It's the "E-Mail to SMS and MMS with multiple modems" link:

http://www.nowsms.com/newsletter/20060502.htm

That discussion board thread had an issue where they wanted to have different SMS senders for messages coming from different e-mail addresses. So that issue was a bit more involved than your issue.

And because of the way it was implemented, it might not work with perfect with your setup. We implemented it so that if you were using the "Authorised E-Mail to SMS/MMS Senders" list, then you could associate a sender address with each entry in the list. See:

http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/53/15129.html

But, if you're not using that authorised list, then there isn't a way.

Take a look at those changes, and if you need more info or have a situation where that doesn't meet your needs, reply back.
