Hi, I've tried searching the forums for this topic but can't find an answer so please forgive me if it's listed elsewhere. I'm trying to get NowSMS to send an email when an sms comes in but something's not quite right. Can I setup an SMTP server on my computer (I'm using WinXP pro) to handle it?

Hi Kev,

Yes, not having an SMTP server is likely the
issue.

If everything else is configured correctly, it is likely that a message file is being written to the MMSCOUT directory, but the MMSC component does not have an SMTP server to route the message to.

We are removing this particular requirement in the next major release, scheduled for late January 2006. But for now, an SMTP server is required.

I don't have any general advice on setting up a mail server. But one potentially helpful piece of advice ... if all of your received messages are being routed to a specific e-mail address, configure the "SMTP Relay Host" to point to the SMTP mail server for that e-mail address. That mail server will likely reject attempts to send messages to other external e-mail addresses, but it should accept a message addressed to a local recipient.
