Hello,

My question is, can a modem pool share a single shortcode so that all messages sent from any modem in the pool will be replied to the same shortcode? If it's possible, how can it be done?

Thank You

The quick answer ... no.

The slightly longer answer...

There is no way to override the sender address when you are sending a message via a GSM modem.

This is a limitation of the protocol that is used for sending an SMS message via a GSM modem. There is no place in the protocol for a sender address to be inserted. Instead, the operator SMSC will always apply the sender address associated with the SIM card in the modem.

So, generally speaking, it is not possible to override this. (The only exception is that I did read about one mobile operator which had a solution installed where a subscriber with both a data card and a mobile phone could have the SMS sender address for messages sent by the data card appear with a sender address of the mobile phone instead of the phone number associated with the data card. Bottom line, however, is that it is only possible if your mobile operator allows/supports it, and it would need to be configured on the mobile operator system.)
