Hi there, Should i be able to use my nokia 6230 via my usb data cable? there are only com ports shiwing within NOW SMS. many thanks, Neil | |||

Hi Neil, There is no standard for accessing modems via a USB interface directly. Every USB modem needs a driver which converts the USB port into a virtualised COM port. If you connected the phone up, and didn't get any errors about missing drivers, then this driver has already been installed, and the modem is probably showing up as COM5 or higher. Generally speaking, though, we recommend that you connect to the modem using a named modem driver instead of going directly to the COM port. If you installed the Nokia drivers for this device, they should have also installed a modem driver, and in the drop down list in NowSMS that shows the list of COM ports, you should also see something like "Nokia 6230 USB Modem". If you don't see that, then check the Nokia web site for a modem driver to install. -bn |
