It sounds like a problem with the modem driver.

Unfortunately, there's probably not much that I can do to help. I've seen a few USB modem drivers where if you disconnect the modem from the PC, it cannot be properly re-added again unless you reboot the PC. (Sometimes, if you click the Windows icon to "Safely Remove Hardware" in the Windows tray ... and remove the modem through that interface before actually disconnecting it ... you will have better luck reconnecting later.)

The reason I can't really do anything to help is because whenever I've observed this problem in the past, it has always appeared to be a Windows driver issue. You see the same behaviour if you connect the modem ... go into the Phone & Modem options menu in the Windows Control Panel, and select the Modem for Diagnostics/Query Modem ... disconnect the modem ... then try to reconnect again ... and Diagnostics/Query Modem can't talk to the modem at a Windows level without NowSMS being involved.

I didn't say that anything would change.

I said ....

So, did you try going into Phone & Modem options in the Windows Control Panel? Select your modem and select "Diagnostics" / "Query Modem"?

When you encounter this error, can Windows query the modem, or does it get an error?

If it gets an error, then something is wrong with the modem driver.

Or another application has the modem open.

That is another possibility. You should not have the NowSMS services running when you try "Query Modem" in Windows.

Another application that can cause problems is Nokia PC Suite.

My advice here is to try troubleshooting using "Query Modem" in Windows ... rather than NowSMS. My point being that if Windows can't successfully talk to the modem, then NowSMS won't be able to.

This is the support forum for the Now SMS/MMS Gateway software product.

The original questions in this thread were pertaining to usage of the NowSMS product.

The most recent postings do not seem to be related to NowSMS. Instead, it appears that you have a phone which was locked to a particular operator in the UK. This is VERY common. Mobile operators subsidise the true cost of handsets. So when you purchase a mobile phone on a contract to a particular operator, it is generally locked to that operator, and will not accept another operator's SIM card.

Generally speaking, to get around this you need to go into the murky underworld of mobile phone unlocking. I don't have any recommendations for you on how to proceed, just start Googling.
