Hi,

Can someone confirm that U.S. T-Mobile rejects binary SMS messages from other networks? I read this in another thread on this site.

I have not been able to send a SMS to a T-Mobile phone from other networks, but it could be an outage.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,

I don't think it is that T-Mobile US rejects them.

The issue seems to be that the carriers in the US all talk to each other through one or two big aggregators that manage the cross operator traffic.

Binary SMS messages have different formats and meanings between the GSM and CDMA worlds ... so these aggregators seem to just throw away binary SMS messages even when going GSM to GSM.

Without knowing the specifics of your setup, here is something else to try. Manually edit SMSGW.INI, and under the [SMSGW] section header, add BinaryDCS=04. This changes the data coding scheme (DCS) value that is used for binary SMS messages generated by NowSMS (by default, we use F5). We have encountered two specific configurations in North America where changing this value made a difference.
