Hi!

I'm trying to setup GSM/GPRS serial Multitech modem to work with NowSMS. After every modem restart (simple pug out and in from power suply) I need to enter HyperTerminal and enter at+cpin=xxxx command.

If I dont do that I get message that modem does not support SMS. But when I enter hyper terminal and enter only
at+cpin=xxxx modem is recognized under nowSMS and its working fine.

Hi Marko,

When you configure the modem in NowSMS, there is a "Modem PIN" setting. If you set a PIN value here, NowSMS sends it to the modem during initialisation (using the AT+CPIN=) command that you describe.

This "Modem PIN" field is displayed when you originally add the GSM modem to NowSMS. But if you need to add it later, you can select the modem from the "SMSC" list and press "Properties" to access the setting.

Of course, you can also disable the PIN ... it is usually easiest to put the SIM into a phone and use the UI of the phone to remove the PIN.

Hi,

of course I try that but there was no luck because initialization did not send AT+CPIN=... command.

I need to use preinit command at+CPIN?. Only in that way it worked!

Hi Marko,

Very interesting ... it requires AT+CPIN? first ... hmm ...

I suppose we could add that to the standard init process when a PIN is defined in the configuration.

Thanks for the feedback.

Hi Marko,

I thought I'd follow-up and mention that I did a little more experimentation with the Multitech GPRS modem ... and noticed some more odd behaviour.

If everything is working for you now, that's great.

But what I noticed is that after the PIN is sent to the modem, the modem returns error responses to most commands for about 20 seconds. These failure responses can trigger NowSMS to perform a hard reset on the modem ... requiring the PIN to be resent, but NowSMS doesn't resend the PIN after the hard reset.

Eventually, it would seem to work, but there seemed to be a lot of modem resets.

So, in the update release that was just posted this week, we added the AT+CPIN? commands and other handling to deal with these timing issues.

Yes I have all those issues but after I enter that init string (AT+CPIN?) everything works OK.

After I put that string I try this:
1. Turn off and on modem in process. It was OK
2. Remove serial cable for 2 min. It was OK
3. Turn PC off and on. It was ok.

Before I anter that init string I have ERROR RESPONE for everything I try after for example switching modem off and on.

I'm glad I could help (if I did) regardless of probability that my client will not take NowSMS because its to expensive for them :-( (but I'll try to convince them because its much less work onprogramming side :-) for me).
