Hello, we are planning on running 5 gprs modems all the time, and using NowSMS to handle SMS sending. Our server has 2 serial ports.. all the serial port expanders I have seen are usb and they convert to serial. Has anyone tried this approach? Secondly, is anyone here running 5 or more modems? If so, how do you have it setup, what modems are you using etc. Thanks | |||

Hi Ryan, I'm old school, so I prefer serial port expanders. But a lot of my preference comes from bad experiences using USB devices back in the days of Windows NT ... and the dreaded blue screen errors. I can't say that I've seen those types of problems under Windows XP or 2003 server. But past experience just left sort of a bad taste in my mouth that I have trouble getting over. I've seen customer log files where they were running as many as 8 USB modems without problems. (And I've had others tell me that they tried even more without any problems.) Usually it's either Multitech or iTegno USB modems for these types of configurations. -bn |
