Dear Bryce,

Thank you for your support that you provided so far (by answering questions to other users ;) )
Just for your information i am developing a PHP application that will sent and receive SMS to and from mobile phone users. Basically the application uses the NOW sms software as the gateway between the App. and the Modem (u already figure this out offcourse). When i am sending an SMS through the application i am using the SMPP protocol. The SMS is transmitted successfully to the GSM modem and then to the client. However, whenever i send an SMS from the mobile phone device to the msisdn associated with the modem i do not receive anything not even in the SMS-INI folder. Can you please provide me with a brief description on the procedures i need to follow on the gateway in order to be able to receive the SMS and forward to the PHP application? I am sure i followed all the steps you have described in other posts, created the SMSC (GSM modem), ticked the 'receive SMS' tick box, created a user, and defined a 2 way sms forwarding it to the correct application. In addition please note that the GSM modem i am using is HUAWEI E220, does it support receiving of SMS.

I trully thank you in advance for your support.

myself also has the same problem, I have configured the SMSC Connection using the GSM Phone Nokia N80, After Configuring I can send sms messages through web but I couldn't receive sms messages.

The sms message is directly coming to the Nokia N80 mobile, & not to SMS-IN.txt file.

In the SMSC settings, I checked Receive SMS Messages & SMS Message Storage, I tried almost all options like Default, Device Memory, Direct to Modem.

whats the significance of SMS Message Storage?

Can someone help me.

Hi,

When it comes to receiving SMS messages, unfortunately all Nokia Series 60 (Symbian user interface) phones do not support receiving SMS messages over the GSM modem interface.

Similarly, all Nokia Series 40 phones (traditional user interface) released in approximately the last 2 years ... also do not support receiving SMS messages over the GSM modem interface. Nokia used to support this functionality in their Series 40 phones, but the functionality was removed in newer models.

In a future version of NowSMS, we're going to add a test when adding the modem, where NowSMS will test the modem to see if it supports both sending and receiving modems.

This is unfortunate, as a couple of years ago, Nokia phones were a good choice for prototyping applications that sent and received SMS with NowSMS.

Dedicated GSM modem devices, such as those from Multitech, Wavecom, iTegno and Falcom, are good alternatives for being able to both send and receive SMS messages.

For the earlier question on this thread, I don't have any information about the HUAWEI E220 handset.

However, if you are having problems receiving SMS messages using a GSM modem, it is a good idea to try the different options for "SMS Message Storage", as sometimes one of those options will work better on particular modems.

The "Direct to Modem" option means that NowSMS will tell the modem to push messages over the modem interface automatically.

The other options require NowSMS to constantly poll the modem for new messages.

"Direct to Modem" generally works best with dedicated modem devices (e.g., not phones). Not many mobile phones with GSM capability support this ability.
