Hello,

Does anyone know how to setup the NOWSMS MMSC section with Clickatell for sending Wap Multimedia Messages and MMS Notifications, i have tried with just sending with SMSC setup but it says the MMSC has to be setup for this.
I know it's probably not possible to send a MMS Message with Clickatell, but an MMS Push message is capable.

Thank You.

Hi Howard,

You're correct that you're not going to be able to send an MMS. (Clickatell's documentation does talk some about MMS, but they only support MMS notifications which won't work on most operator networks. MMS notifications are a component of the "direct delivery" technique of sending MMS, which is described in more detail at http://www.nowsms.com/howmmsworks.htm.)

The multimedia WAP push will work ok, but the basics of the MMSC must be configured.

What does this mean?

When you use the "Multimedia WAP Push" function, it works sort of like MMS. The web page that talks about how MMS works is some useful background info ... http://www.nowsms.com/howmmsworks.htm.

But I'll give a basic overview here.

When you use the "Multimedia WAP Push" function, the content of the message is posted to the NowSMS MMSC. The MMSC builds a mobile web page containing the content, and creates a dynamic URL for this web page. It then sends out a WAP push message that links back to this URL.

The URL itself, or rather it's associated content, is physically on the NowSMS MMSC.

So to fetch this content, the recipient needs to initiate an HTTP connection back to the NowSMS MMSC in order to receive the content.

In order to do this, the "MMSC" component of NowSMS needs to be accessible over the internet. Specifically, the "HTTP Port Number" configured for the MMSC must be accessible over the internet.

And, NowSMS must know how to build this dynamic URL that allows the client to connect back to the NowSMS MMSC. For this, the "Local Host Name or IP Address" component of the MMSC configuration must be set with an externally accessible host name or IP address that can be used by a message recipient to allow it to connect back to the NowSMS MMSC.

Or a host name through a dynamic DNS provider such as dyndns.org or no-ip.com.

That host name can follow your dynamic IP address with a minimal amount of downtime when your IP address changes.
