Hi there, I have a Sierra Wireless HSPA Modem and NowSMS v2008.06.03 installed and I can not seem to send an SMS. I have configured the modem according to the instructions on this website and the diagnostics test returns "Modem successfully tested!". I use the web-interface to send a message and I notice in the Outbound SMS queue the nessage I am trying to send has the following status: "Retry - 2 apptempts - ERROR - Modem Response (1): OK -- Sierra Wireless HSPA Modem" I have read a few threads in this forum and thought that as this is a 3G modem, the device could be having problems accessing the SMSC off the SIM, so I added the following lines (and combinations of the two) to the SMSGW.INI file. - CommandPostInit1=AT+WS46=12 - SMSC=+614XXXXXXXX (being the SMSC for my provider). After resstarting the service, I am still unable to send messages. I am interested in purchasing NowSMS if I can get this working. Can you please advise of anything I am missing to get this going? Thanks, Chris.

Hi there, I have resolved this problem. Misconfiguration from my end. Although I have another question.. At the moment when I send messages from a SIM using NowSMS, on the receiving phone it comes up with the phone number the SMS was sent from. Can I change this to some kinda alpha-numeric string? Thanks, Chris.

Hi Chris, No, unfortunately that is a limitation of using a GSM modem. When you send the SMS it gets sent through the operator SMSC the same way as if you were sending it from a mobile phone. That protocol doesn't provide any way to allow you to set the sender address. Instead, the operator SMSC automatically inserts the phone number of the SIM card associated with the modem as the sender address when it processes the message. -- Des NowSMS Support

Out of curiosity ... was the original problem that you were experiencing an issue of using the wrong modem port? It seems to be an issue with the Sierra Wireless devices that they expose multiple serial ports, and only one of the serial ports can be used as a modem for sending SMS. |
