Hi

We're using the latest version of NowSMS on a testing environment of ours to compare the old with the new version.

We've noticed that in the last day or so the CPU load has been unusually high when the SMS-IN folder contains a lot of BAD files.

When deleting these it returns the CPU load to normal.

We're quite concerned about this as we're not too sure how this scenario will react in a live environment

I should say that the machine we're using is a 64bit server.

Is there any particular reason for this happening?

Cheers
Chris

Hi again

We've looked a bit more into this and it seems that when the NowSMS service is active, CPU usage jumps to 100%. When its inactive, down to almost 0.

It's worth mentioning the machine is an Itanium 64bit.

Cheers

Hi Chris,

When you say new version, which version number are you talking about?

And is it definitely tied to the existence of these ".BAD" files in the SMS-IN directory? How many of these files are we talking about?

Hi Des

The version in question is the 2008.11 version. I don't think it is neccesarily related to the .BAD files as I've tested the service without anything in the Q folder and the CPU load still jumps up.

Hi Chris,

If you can, try http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms20081204.zip to see if it behaves any differently. I know we found a few situations where the update was reprocessing some "error" files that were set aside to another directory in previous versions.

In particular, we noticed the VASPQ\ERROR directory was causing problems at one site. (This is an outbound queue for MMS messages being routed to other MMSCs.)

Try this other version (we really need to replace the other download with this version), and if that doesn't resolve the problem, try to narrow down whether it is files in the Q, SMS-IN or VASPQ directory that is causing the CPU load.
