Hello I'm having trouble connecting my modem to the NowSMS program. I've been debugging for most of the day, and have realized I can't communicate with the modem through the HyperTerminal. I've tried two computers now, so I'm assuming either I have a bad modem (although I just bought it new) or a bad cable. To setup the HyperTerminal, I did the following: - Start new connection - Connect to COMPORT1 (the only available port) - Under 'Properties' (115200) - Bits per second (8) - Data Bits (None) - Parity Bits (1) - Stop Bits (Hardware) - Flow Control -If I type anything, nothing shows up, so I go to 'File' > 'Properties' then look for ASCII setup, then check the box that says "echo locally" -After that, I type 'AT', and the cursor goes back to the beginning of the line and nothing happens. Does anyone have an idea of what might be going on? Thanks for your help, Matt

Okay, finally got the 'AT' command to work. It says 'OK'. But when I try: AT+CMGF=1 The cursor just goes to the beginning of the line. What does that mean? Thanks! Matt

Hi Matt, I wonder if there's a problem with the cable. It's been awhile since I did any low level work with modem communication, but problems with getting the DSR/DTR/RTS/CTS signals through could cause this type of issue. You might initially be able to get a short command through, but then you get blocked because the hardware handshaking signals aren't going through. I think I'd try to get another cable as a next step. You might also want to try sending AT+CFUN=1 out to the modem via HyperTerminal as a reset. -- Des NowSMS Support
