Sorry, for my very basic question.
But please tell me how to logout from
Discussion Board on session termination.

I can see Login/Register button and none for logout
(Firefox, Vista).

Hi Darius,

Actually, that's a very good question.

We've been using this discussion board software for so long that it appears our old templates don't have a logout button.

I hope I didn't screw anything up in the process, but when I post this reply, there should be a "Logout" button at the bottom of the screen. Fingers crossed.

Thanks.
Really is.
The issue is, login page is not refreshed
on entering username/ password,
keeping both entries still open for correction.

As username/ password are cached in html send/put
request, it is a good practice to have login script to refresh login page and show a new web page without Username/ Password fields completed,
as not to let some addware script to extract form entered data, still available for reading.

Ok.
As I am already signed in, I will try to clear
either Username or Password entries to see what happens when I click Preview/PostMessage button.

Just tested and error was generated.
=======================================
Error
Your username/password combination was invalid, or you do not have permission to post to this topic. You may revise your username and password using the form at the bottom of this page.
==========================================
So logging in is not permanent, as being already logged in I still have to input right data into Username and Password fields to post this message.

I assume, logout button doesn't work either.

Not an issue, as long as none of computers connecting to your Board runs malware reading form entered data for flooding your service with unsolicited requests.

I'm not an expert in the discussion board software that we are using (DiscusWare).

But I did just find out that the URL link that I added was incorrect ... I had an extra character in the URL. If you click on the Logout link now (at least on this page), it will display a page indicating that you have logged out.

As you've figured out, it doesn't really log you in.

When you login or post a message, it saves your information in a cookie. And then it uses that cookie to remember you. Logout clears the cookie.

I agree that is not a good design.

If we were just starting a discussion forum today, I would not look at other products.

I do like how this software uses static HTML pages which improves reading performance, and which works better with search engines. But there are other things that we do not like about it.

This board was installed in November 2002. And it still works (moved web servers about 6 months ago). I'd hate to change discussion board software now because we have so many useful messages archived here.

Dear Des,

your product is excellent, your board is excellent, your support is really excellent and highly interactive.

As I visit many web forums and personally run more than 100 Google Groups, from time to time I discover some differences in interfaces to web forums.
That's all. Please don't blame me.

Another test I did just before reading your reply.
Logout button works fine.

But it should be selected twice for final logging out.
Now I am not logged in
and have to enter my username and password
into fields below my post.

I am not logged in but clicking on Logout button
still generates the following response
----------------------------------------
Logout Confirmed Search Search

Click the following link to log in again:

Now SMS/MMS Gateway
---------------------------
So logout works and logout is confirmed for not logged in user.

I promise, not to bother you any more with this problem.
