Hi NowSMS folks,

Does NowSMS support the SonyEricsson MD300 USB modem?

When I try to add the modem to NowSMS, it complains "Modem does not properly support command for sending SMS (AT+CMGS)".

One thing I notice ... the modem has a flashing light on it.

When I try to add the modem to NowSMS, it is not flashing.

If I run the Wireless Manager 5 software that came with the modem, the modem light starts flashing red, and eventually flashes green.

If I try to add the modem to NowSMS now, it says "Unable to access modem at COM35: -- Error 20 -- The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".

There is an "Enable / Disable Radio" option in Wireless Manager. When I enable the radio, the modem light flashes. When I disable the radio, the modem light goes off.

When I exit Wireless Manager, the modem light goes off, like it is disabling the radio on exit.

I think NowSMS needs to just turn the radio on. But I cannot figure out how to do this.

Any ideas?

Hi Gustav,

Yes.

SonyEricsson seems to do some unusual power management with their devices. In earlier versions of NowSMS we had to add some code to work with those devices.

However, the newer devices handle power management a little differently.

But we have already updated NowSMS to work with these devices. The updated version can be found at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsmsupdate.zip.

Note: The SonyEricsson MD300 seems to be a decent modem ... we've used it for both sending and receiving SMS and MMS, and it is quite reliable, but it is not as fast as the Option ICON. We were recently testing both the SonyEricsson MD300 and the Option ICON 322. We noted that it took the MD300 between 5 and 6 seconds to submit an SMS message, while the ICON 322 took between 2 and 3 seconds.
