I am trying to understand and solve the same old connectivity problem I have read about thru other threads. Currently, I want a website to interact (send sms) with nowsms installed on a local machine which is connected to a gsm modem. I have tested the connectivity successfully with localhost was successfully able to send sms. Trouble starts when I try to connect from an internet website. I have a dynamic IP which I keep track using dydns.com (thnks to one of the threads).I have also successfully configured virtual servers(Port forward-- 8800).Tested the same using PFPortChecker. However when I try http://59.xx.xx.xx:8800/ (external IP:8800), I get unable to connect--site may be down.... For http://127.0.0.1:8800/, I can see the web interface correctly.I had disabled my firewall and tested this but no luck. What is it that is missing??

Hi, Unfortunately, I don't have any magic answers for you. It is possible that your provider blocks all inbound connections. Most do not. But some do. (Many block port 80 but do not block others.) Does PFPortChecker say that you are ok? Many routers do not allow you to connect to your external IP address from inside of your network, which can add to the confusion. -- Des NowSMS Support

Sorry for the late response. PFPortChecker returns OK for 8800 however when I checked it with Advance port scanner it shows closed. Screenshots attached. Why so? I think I need to speak to service provider for opening the port first. A quick question. Has this been tested OK earlier. I mean dynamic IP and nowsms local web-server working erroneously.

I'm not sure how PFPortChecker works, but I tested it on a few systems that I use, and it did correctly identify ports that were correctly forwarded through my router. Are you sure that you are using the correct external IP address when trying to connect from the outside? I don't know what else to suggest. -- Des NowSMS Support |
