Hi,

In our scenarion if you have about 30-40 connections it takes about 10-20 mins to restart service. I guess, it's better to solve that issue.

Hi Alex,

I'd suggest you contact Keith via e-mail to discuss the other concerns. (I have removed some details from the public posting.)

Is it truly a long start up, or is it a long shut down? (Both, of course, contribute to time delays on restart.)

If it is a start up issue, I recall another customer that had an issue in this area. There was an extremely large collection of messages in the SMS-IN directory (delivery receipts).

In their case, delivery receipts were being returned from an SMSC when they were not being requested. In this scenario, if a delivery receipt is not being asked for, NowSMS does not track it, and will not know how to route a delivery receipt that is returned. The only way to resolve this issue is to force NowSMS to set the delivery receipt requested flag. This can be done on a per-connection basis by adding DefaultDelReceipt=Yes under the [SMPP - server:port] section of SMSGW.INI. Or to affect all SMPP connections, add DeliveryReceiptFlag=Yes under the [SMPP] header.

There was also a serious bug in some recent interim releases where delivery receipts were not properly tracked if the receipt came in 2 or more days after the message was submitted. This was fixed in 2010.10.22 and later (http://www.nowsms.com/category/updates)

Hi Des,

Shut down is ok but start isn't fast. Recently after restart we can bind or submit messages. But gui counter will increase sent messages after about 5-10. Is there any influnce if amount of connections? In the same scenarion with 5 upstream connections NowSMS starts in 1 minute.

Hi Alex,

At start-up NowSMS scans the outbound Q and inbound SMS-IN directory.

No outbound message processing occurs until this scan is complete.

My suspicion is that there are a large number of queued messages in one of those directories. (Refer especially to my note about delivery receipts and the SMS-IN directory in my earlier reply.)
