Hi,

We have come across another slight issue when our SMSC is processing messages and sending to NowSMS via SMPP, please see below the query from our SMSC providers:

"Are they able to configure the system to select a fixed encoding scheme of either 7 or 8 bits per character irrespective of the message length? At present they use 8 bit coding if below 160 characters and 7 bit if above. This is VERY difficult for us to allow for in our code."

If this is possible, please let us know, we process messages in various languages (from English to Hebrew) and various lengths so need it to work correctly for all if possible.

Regards

Hi Tim,

This is configurable under "Advanced Settings" for the SMPP connection.

"Encode text messages with 7-bit packed encoding" specifies which encoding is used for messages shorter than 160 characters that do not include UDH.

"Encode long text messages with 7-bit packed encoding" specifies which encoding is used for longer messages or shorter messages that include UDH.

Different providers and different SMPP implementations have different expectations, so it is not unusual to have to customise these settings to work with a provider.
