Hi, We are doing some test to optimize our SMSC with NowSMS GW, We like to know why NowSMS is responding to the unbind with a Generic NAK then carries on using the connection regardless.

Hi Luay, I'd need to see the request in context in order to understand. (And verify that it is properly formatted.) But my guess is that you are using an older version of NowSMS. Older versions of NowSMS only expected the unbind request to be sent from client to server. NowSMS would only acknowledge it and close the connection when NowSMS is the SMPP server and a client sent the unbind request. With NowSMS acting as an SMPP client, NowSMS would send the unbind request when it wanted to terminate a session, but if it received an unbind request, it did not understand the request and responded with a generic NAK. The SMPP specification does state that the unbind request can be sent by either a client or a server, and versions of NowSMS later than 2008.09.09 do properly support the SMPP unbind request when sent from server to client. For older versions of NowSMS, there is no harm in the server sending an unbind request and then disconnecting even though it does not receive an unbind acknowledgment. -- Des NowSMS Support
