I'm trying to add a Multi-Tech MTCBA-C1-U-N3 for Verizon. SMS works via a terminal session, but I get the following error when I try to add it to NowSMS:

Hi Raffi,

What version of NowSMS are you using? Is it by chance an older version?

Hmm...maybe there are different firmware versions for that modem.

From a terminal session, what response do you get to the following commands?

AT+CSMS=0
AT+CSMS=1
AT+CSMS=?
AT+CSMS?

AT+CSMS=0
ERROR
AT+CSMS=1
ERROR
AT+CSMS=?
ERROR
AT+CSMS?
ERROR

(by the way, I looked in the Multi-Tech CDMA-C1 AT Commands Reference Guide, and the command CSMS does not exist)

That's the problem.

Multitech must be changing chipsets with some regularity, because this command has always been supported in the past.

Indeed, it looks like their CDMA modems are now using a Sierra Wireless chipset.

We'll have to investigate this further. According to that documentation, most of the commands we use to test to see if the modem truly is a GSM modem fail.

Maybe there is not good enough reason for us to require these init commands to succeed. For some GSM modems, the init commands are important to ensure that the modem is in the correct mode ... but for a modem that is an emulator, maybe we should not be so strict.

I have to refer this back to engineering. It will take me several days to respond further.

Hi Raffi,

We made some changes to the modem initialisation logic which will hopefully be sufficient to allow this modem to work.

Please try the updated version at http://www.nowsms.com/download/nowsms20110810.zip.

Hi Des. Thanks for the patch. Unfortunately, our license has expired. I tried installing it as a trial version, but it doesn't work. It ends up on a screen which gives me the options to "Install with a purchased serial number" or "Exit"

Hi Raffi,

Send me an email with your license details (best if you have the text file we normally send out), and I will sort it. Send it to nowsms@nowsms.com with Attention: Des in the subject line.
