Hi,

I am Getting this Error" return an error code of 540 when submitting a SMS to send out", while i try to send SMS using NOW SMS.

i have tried with the below mentioned options which is suggested in the forum, but no luck, still i am getting the same issue, please suggest me to resolve this issue.

First, remove the SIM card from the modem and put it into a mobile phone. Verify that the phone can send and receive SMS messages using the SIM. (If it can't, then there's something wrong with the account associated with the SIM.)

Use the utility software included with the modem and verify that you have a good signal for connecting to the mobile operator.

Go into "Properties" for the modem in the NowSMS "SMSC" list, and change "SMS Access" to "GSM". (If this is a 3G modem, this doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to drop back to the 2G network. This setting means to use the "circuit switched" network instead of the "packet switched" network. Some mobile operators do not have SMS support enabled over the "packet switched" network.)

Hi,

What modem is it?

CMS ERROR 540 is a manufacturer specific error. If we knew the modem model, we might be able to locate some relevant documentation that would define what this error code means for that manufacturer/model. (I'd actually be curious to see the SMSDEBUG.LOG to see what the modem reports in response to ATI0, among other init commands, as this would tell us what chipset it is using.)

If this is a Sierra Wireless modem, it is possible that there is confusion because the manufacturer software installs multiple virtual COM ports, however, no Windows modem driver gets installed for the COM port that supports SMS connectivity. To see how to find the other port in this case, see http://www.nowsms.com/sms-and-mms-with-the-sierra-wireless-compass-885-usb-modem.

Hi,

I can find very little technical information about that modem. Very few modems have defined any use of the CMS ERROR code 540. But I did find one modem where this error code indicates that the network operator is rejecting the SMS message (SMS not authorised for SIM, or no credit). So please confirm that you have removed the SIM from the modem, put that SIM into a phone, and verify that the phone can send SMS using the SIM from the modem.

I can't emphasise enough how important it is to verify that the SIM can be used to send SMS.

The next issue ... does the modem have some type of "Connection Manager" software? Make sure that software does not have an active connection, as the modem might not support sending SMS while a connection is active.

As we have no access to this particular device, I don't know what else to suggest.

If you want to post an SMSDEBUG.LOG that shows modem initialisation and an attempt to send a message, maybe this will give me an idea of something else to try.
