Hi

I am having an issue getting an SMPP connection to work on a Win2008 R2 server.

I initially tested the connection on my laptop and it worked perfectly but the NowSMS software cannot connect on the server using the same credentials and software set up.

Looking at some traces the primary difference is a reset command in the string after the initial acknowledgement from the far end.

I have tried turning off the firewall and I am still unable to connect.

Is there a major difference when running NowSMS on Win Server over Win7?

Thanks

Alex

Hi Alex,

No, there are no major differences running on Windows 2008 R2 server.

I assume that you're looking at a Wireshark trace and seeing a connection reset.

Since you're looking at it at that low level, let me ask ... is the connection at all established (allowing NowSMS to send the initial SMPP bind request), or is it simply refused?

If the connection is refused, that sounds like a firewall issue ... if not on your end, more likely on the other end.

Are you connecting from the same IP address as the Windows 7 machine was using? (Same external facing IP address if the SMPP server is outside of your network.) If its a different IP your service provider may need to add this to their firewall.

If the connection fails after the bind packet, it still may be an IP address issue, but with your change of IP address needing to be provisioned for your account at the SMPP server.

Also, is NowSMS still active on the Windows 7 PC? The SMPP server may limit the number of active connections for your account (or from a particular IP address). Note in this case that after dropping a connection, some servers might take a few minutes before realising and allowing a new connection.

Thanks Des

It was a firewall issue at the far end and this has now been resolved.
