Have a carrier (VzW) asking if NowSMS is "certified as a type B ESME to SMPP GW". Can you help us understand what the question means and whether NowSMS meets their requirement please?

Hi Lee,

I'm sorry, but I do not have any idea what "certified as type B" might refer to.

Some of the larger mobile operators do have compliance tests before allowing a direct connection. I do not recall ever receiving any information about Verizon tests or certification.

I can explain that typical operator compliance tests mostly pertain to error handling, retry behavior and peak transmission speed, all of which are configurable.

For error handling, a typical requirement is that the operator has some specific error codes, where if the error code is encountered, it should be considered a permanent failure, with no retry attempts. This link explains error code handling and retry behavior: http://www.nowsms.com/smpp-error-code-handling-in-nowsms

Another typical requirement is a non-aggressive reconnect on failure, where overly aggressive reconnection attempts may trigger performance issues on their system. Settings related to this are detailed here: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/71572.html

How the ESME responds to throttling errors is also frequently tested. This thread has some explanation: http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/1/59777.html

They may also require you to observe a strict speed limit per connection. Info on configuring that setting here: http://www.nowsms.com/smsc-speed-limits

Those are the main issues that come to mind. I wish I had a better idea of what they are referring to with "Type B", but hopefully the above will give you some ideas to get more information from them.
