I'm trying to set up SMS now using our PBX as an sms gateway.

I can connect successfully however when I try and send a test sms I get the error below:

ERROR: submit_sm or submit_multi failed - ESME_RSUBMITFAIL (0x45)--SMPP - 192.168.XX.XX:2775

I have contacted our provider (O2) and they have said that as far as they are concerned the sim is set up to allow sms. Any advice on what the error means?

Hi,

I'm confused.

quote:

ERROR: submit_sm or submit_multi failed - ESME_RSUBMITFAIL (0x45)--SMPP - 192.168.XX.XX:2775

This indicates that you have configured NowSMS to send messages out via an SMPP connection. The SMPP server is returning an error ESME_RSUBMITFAIL.

I have contacted our provider (O2) and they have said that as far as they are concerned the sim is set up to allow sms.

This is where I am confused. I don't understand how an O2 SIM card relates to this. There is no logical relationship between SMPP and a SIM card.

Any advice on what the error means?

Only the SMPP server can really tell, as this error code is coming from the SMPP server.

We can make some guesses based upon common issues.

1.) What do you have set as the Default Sender Address for the SMPP connection in NowSMS? Use a sender address allowed by your provider ... some providers will return errors if the sender is blank or uses a value not allowed by your provider.

2.) Try different recipient address formats ... with and without country code. For example 07777777777, 447777777777 and +447777777777. Your provider might require one of these formats.

3.) Check with your SMPP provider to verify that the SMPP login account you are using is correctly provisioned.

Des,

Thanks for the reply and sorry for the confusion, the reason I mentioned O2 is that I didn't understand the error and I wanted to make sure that the server provider wasn't causing any problems.

To answer your questions:

1. I have the SMSC Number for O2 as the sender address with the tick box override address un-selected. I have tried sending a message with the sender address blank and the tick box selects also. But this doesn't solve the problem

2. I've also tried the different formats and I still get the same error.

3. Can you confirm what you mean by correctly provisioned? I can log on/connect to the SMPP gateway correctly if that's what you mean?

Hi,

What is the SMPP server? Is it something you control, or is it at a provider?

Normally, it is at a provider. So even if you can login successfully, when I talk about the account being provisioned correctly, I'm referring to issues such as the account not being allocated any credits. Every system is different, but sometimes a provider will forget to set something up correctly for an account, such as credits, IP address restrictions, etc.

But basically, only the SMPP server can explain why it is rejecting the message with the error code ESME_RSUBMITFAIL. This is a rather generic error code, which is why I was suggesting it could be a policy issue (sender address or recipient address format), or an account provisioning issue.

If this is a provider, what details has the provider told you about connecting to the server? (Any mention of system type or service type settings, or anything else beside server address, user name and password?)

If this is an SMPP server under your control, is it working with any other accounts? What do its logs report?

The SMPP server is our PBX, it has a built in SMS gateway which uses a mobile sim from our service provider (O2) to send sms.

I have control of this and it sounds like that is where the problem lies I'll have a look at the logs and see if I can find anything.

thanks.
