Hi Team,

I am having problems connecting any Android modem.

I think something has gone corrupt, because NowSMS tells me my Cloud Server ID is 0000000000000, which does not sound right. And I do not even understand why I am using a cloud server because NowSMS is installed on my local server.

Help!

Hi Peter,

Yes, a cloud server ID of 0000000000000 is a problem.

Before I discuss that specific problem and how to resolve it, let me explain best practices for using Android modems with NowSMS.

The best way to connect an Android modem to NowSMS is to use the "Remote Direct" configuration. In this scenario, you configure the Android app to connect to the IP address or host name of your NowSMS server. By default, when you add an Android modem to NowSMS, NowSMS will begin listening to TCP port 8990 for connections from Android devices.

In some scenarios, the Android device will not be on the same network as NowSMS. For these configurations, we offer a free cloud service that can be used to connect modems to a NowSMS server. The first time NowSMS connects to the cloud modem service, it is assigned a "Cloud Server ID". Android devices use this "Cloud Server ID" to connect to your NowSMS server. For security purposes, on the first connection, security tokens are exchanged, so that another server cannot impersonate your server and use your modems.

In recent weeks, there has been a problem with this cloud modem service, where multiple servers were given an invalid cloud server id of 0000000000000. Attempting to connect modems using this cloud server ID has been inconsistent at best.

The problem with the cloud modem service has been fixed. However, if your server has been assigned the invalid cloud server id, this needs to be reset.

In NowSMS NextGen, the best way to reset the cloud server ID is to update to a new version, which can easily be done via an "Update" button in the web admin interface under "Admin/System Configuration". When adding a new Android modem, there is an option to enable/disable cloud modem connectivity, which can reset this server ID.
