A customer experienced an unusual problem upgrading from NowSMS Windows to NowSMS NextGen on Linux, while following the directions detailed here: https://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/113328/113819.html

IP address restrictions had been applied for access to the web interface in the Windows version.

These restrictions were too restrictive, as they received an error "Connection not allowed from IP address" when attempting to access the web interface of NowSMS NextGen.

We advised that the /var/lib/nowsms/SMSGW.INI file could be manually edited, where the following settings in the [SMSGW] section of SMSGW.INI could be edited or removed:

WebIPRestrict=
AdminIPAddressList=

These settings can also be edited via the web interface, if you have access to it:

However, there was a problem. Every time the NowSMS NextGen service was restarted, the old IP restriction settings would return.

The issue is that NowSMS NextGen uses a different configuration setting that NowSMS Windows. NowSMS Windows stores these restrictions in SMSGW.INI in a [IPRestrictions] setting. At startup, NextGen looks to see if there is a WebIPRestrict= setting. If there is not, it looks for an [IPRestrictions] section, and converts this format and applies it as WebIPRestrict=.

This can create a problem, where if you remove IP address restrictions, on restart NextGen will find the old settings and reapply them.

We are updating NextGen to remove the [IPRestrictions] section after conversion. However, there may be some situations where customers may need to manually edit SMSGW.INI to remove or edit these settings manually.
