Hello guys...i'm trying to send a sms the "@" character. My handler sends it right (verified with wireshark), but in nowsms logs apears the character "!" backwards. Anyone knows why?

Hi Paul,

I'm not sure what you mean by "my handler sends it right".

Does that mean that you are submitting this message to NowSMS via an SMPP client?

The "default" SMPP character set in NowSMS is the GSM character set, where the '@' character is represented as a NULL.

If you want to use iso-8859-1 instead, that is fine, but you should set the data_coding flag to 3 to indicate that you are using this character set.

If I have misunderstood your question, and you are submitting out via SMPP, then it may be necessary to go into the "Advanced Settings" for the SMPP connection in the NowSMS "SMSC" list and set the SMSC character set to "iso-8859-1".

Thank you Des. I forgot to tell you i'm sending sms through SMPP. It works fine with data coding = 3.

Another problem is the sending of chinesse characters. In this case data coding is 8, but i receive only squares on the phone. Any ideas ?

Hi Paul,

Assuming that the data content is 16-bit Unicode, I can't imagine what the issue would be. (Maybe high byte/low byte order is swapped? Off-hand, I don't remember the order ... I'm pretty sure it's high byte/low byte.)

What I'd suggest is that you try sending some test messages from the NowSMS web interface which contain Unicode characters. That way you can figure out whether the problem is between your client and NowSMS, or between NowSMS and the provider.

If you don't have an easy way to input these Unicode characters, copy+paste from charmap.exe.

Also ... I assume your phone supports the Chinese characters that you are trying to send? Western phones don't always have complete Unicode implementations ... and will display a square on the phone for characters they don't have.
