Hi,

AT&T is set to turn off 2G network in our area, so we are forced to upgrade our modem. While we are updating the modem, we figure it's a good opportunity to deploy an SMS Gateway for additional flexibility.

We've narrowed our search down to USRobotics M2M 3G GSM Intelligent Cellular Modem USR3500 (http://www.usr.com/en/products/cellular-m2m-modems-gateways/cellular-m2m-usr3500). Would this one be compatible to NowSMS?

TIA for your help!

Edward

Hi Edward,

I haven't seen any feedback about any US Robotics modems. But looking at the docs, it should be fine. The commands and modes used by NowSMS are in the docs. And I also notice a lot of references to Sierra Wireless in the docs, which suggests this may be a rebranded or OEM product which is good, as they make reliable product. I also see Wavecom command references, which is a company that Sierra Wireless bought, which suggests the product is built on a Wavecom chipset.

My only caution is that if you plan to send and receive MMS, I'd go with an Android phone. For SMS (text only), this device looks good. Conventional modems just aren't as good for MMS.

Hi Des,

Thank you very much for the information! When we get this modem tested, we will let you know. It could be another modem added to the "compatible" list.

Thanks again!

If your using the ATT wap gateway, it may not work on 3g/4g and you may need to setup your own WAP proxy (NowWap works). just something to look into.
