Hi,

I'm looking for a compatible modem driver for Windows 64 bit O/S for a Siemens MC35 module. I have seen that users on here have been able to install and use the device on Windows R2 server. Can someone please point in the right direction for the modem driver/s ?

Many thanks.

Hi Paul,

As long as the modem already shows up as a COM port, you can just use the Standard 33600 bps Modem driver from Windows.

(Despite the speed reference, it will not be limited to 33600 bps. This is just the most generic modem driver in Windows.)

Hi Des,

Many thanks for the quick response on this. Appreciated!

The server will be a dell R410 model which has a 9 pin serial port for the modem connection. I'll make sure that the serial / COM port is enabled and ready as part of the server build before its handed over.

TBH I have not tested this before on Win Server 2008 64 bit. The release docs for the Siemens modem device says it has not been tested or formally supported for 2008 R2 but it does seem like other users have had the modem working on R2 operating systems without issue. We will be using to send & receive SMS and dial up to the GSM network. Hoping it will be ok!

Many thanks Des!

Hi Paul,

When it is a serial connection, the OS and driver is not a concern. As long as the device can be accessed by a COM port number, standard serial communication will work. And if a Windows modem driver is required (we require one in NowSMS Lite), the Standard 33600 bps Modem driver will work.

Drivers and OS versions they support are more of an issue for USB modems, because they require software drivers to emulate a serial port for the OS to use to communicate with the modem.
