Hi David, What is the device and Android version? How often does the problem occur? What version of NowSMS Lite (I'm assuming 2016.03.28 or newer)? When the problem occurs, is NowSMS Modem shown as a running process on the device? If running Android 5 or earlier, go to Settings/Apps/Running too see running/active processes. If running Android 6 or 7, enable developer options and go to Settings/Developer Options/Running Services (see http://www.howtogeek.com/258300/how-to-access-androids-list-of-running-apps-in-6 .0-marshmallow-and-above/ for info on enabling developer options). How much memory is the NowSMS Modem app using? The quickest fix is to try a different phone. In our testing, we saw similar behavior with a low-end LG pay-as-you-go phone. It worked for months, then started going off-line periodically. We investigated and ran a variety of tests, but ultimately the phone itself died and will no longer start, suggesting a hardware problem. -- Des NowSMS Support | |||

Hi David, We are trying to recreate the problem, but with no luck. We suspect that the NowSMS app is getting stopped because of a low memory situation. The J1 is a little notorious because most of the time it is loaded with bloatware, but only has 512MB RAM. The NowSMS app instructs the OS not to terminate it in these conditions, and from what we've seen in our testing, that seems to work. While we continue to try to recreate a problem, I have 2 questions and 2 suggestions. If you power off the phone and power it back on, does the NowSMS modem app start automatically? I assume the device is permanently connected to power. Does the screen remain on? Suggestions: If you leave the NowSMS blue screen open on the device, does this make a difference? By default, in the versions you are running, NowSMS checks that the app is active every 3 minutes. Let's try lowering this to 60 seconds so that Android continues to see the app was active. In SMSGW.INI, under the [SMSGW] header, add ModemAppCheckInterval=60 -- Des NowSMS Support |
