I tried sending an MMS to the gateway, only to receive SAR files, nothing is received in the MMS-In folder.

Any help or do you guys need further information?

Thanks and regards,
suming

Hi suming,

Yes, we would need more information. Unless I can make a good guess.

Where are these SAR files? (SMS-IN, I assume.) What are the file names?

The only problem I can think of is that we did recently find a problem where if the mobile operator sends out the SMS for the MMS notification with an alphanumeric sender address that included a "-" character, then NowSMS could not properly reassemble the segmented messages.

There is a patch for NowSMS 2006 that fixes this problem, available for download at http://www.nowsms.com/download/patch2006.zip.

Beyond that issue, I can't think of any known problems. Even if the MMS settings were not configured correctly, we would reassemble the SAR files ... and the MMS notification retrieval would get queued into the MMSINQ directory.

Hi dominic,

Receiving the MMS message as a text message indicates that the mobile operator thinks that your device does not support MMS.

You might need to contact the mobile operator to get it provisioned ... or it might get provisioned automatically by sending an MMS message.

It is possible that because you failed to pick up the MMS messages earlier that the MMSC has decided that your device does not support MMS.

My advice would be to put the SIM card into a phone, and try sending/receiving MMS with the SIM card in a phone to verify that it can send/receive before putting the SIM back into the modem (and then follow the previous advice).

Hi,
Thanks for the advice. I'm now able to replicate the situation before. Here is the SAR file i received (after patching it with the file from the link you gave me)

File name: 53081-2-2-2.SAR
content of file:

[SMS-IN]
ModemName=iTegno GPRS Wireless Modem
Sender=53081
PhoneNumber=+6597486854
UDH=0B05040B8423F00003020202
dcs=F5
Data=4E00960BEA74727920616761696E008A808E02020C8805810302A30083687474703A2F2F313 7322E31362E31342E32303A383030322F52467279694B77514475674141425038414141414667414 1427567414141414100

Thanks for your help.

Oh, just to add on, what i did with the patch is to just replace the current files withe the one from the patch. No configuration is done after that.

Hi Dominic,

You shouldn't need the patch (but it's ok that you have it), as I see that the sender is a numeric value.

It sounds like you are only getting one segement of the message.

I take it that there is no 53081-2-2-1.SAR ... only 53081-2-2-2.SAR.

This indicates that we are getting part #2 of the message, but we never received part #1.

The numbers may vary, but if there are *.SAR files, then it is either the bug that I mentioned, or all of the message parts are not being received.

You might be able to tweak this by changing the "SMS Message Storage" option in the configuration. I'd suggest trying "Direct to Modem".

Hi,

Really thanks, as you said, changing the "SMS Message Storage" option in the configuration. I'd suggest trying "Direct to Modem" did the trick.

But yes, i receive ony 53081-2-2-2.SAR that time. Probably something you would like to look into, instead of letting the users to try out the few sms message storage options.

Again, thanks a lot. Great help.

dominic

Hi Dominic,

Glad to hear that setting seemed to resolve the problem.

We'd like to make the "Direct to Modem" setting the default, as it works best with dedicated modem devices. Unfortunately, it is not supported by most "phone modems", and most of the people trialing our software start by trying a mobile phone as the modem.

That said, dedicated phone modems should work properly with any of the settings ... however, the "Direct to Modem" option is fastest and most efficient setting. Unfortunately, it sounds like your modem is actually losing messages with the other setting.
