Howdy guys,
with the NowSMS product, when I send an image (or a sound) from a handset to another, my picture is sented to another handset or, the picture is stored in a server (a NowSMS server), and from the another handset I have to use the WAP protocol to push it?

TIA,

Hi Marcelo,

It depends on what type of image or sound you are sending.

Many simple black & white images and simple sounds can be sent over SMS. They are usually encoded either in EMS format (SonyEricsson/Motorola/Siemens/Alcatel) or Nokia Smart Messaging format ... and can only be received/understood by phones that support that same format.

When you send via EMS, all of the data is encoded into the SMS message(s), and sent via SMS.

More complex (colour) pictures and sounds can be sent over MMS (multimedia messaging).

When you send phone-to-phone with MMS, the content is packaged up into an MMS message, and it gets sent to the MMSC configured in the phone (might be the NowSMS MMSC if so configured). The MMSC stores the MMS message content into a file, and sends an MMS notification message over WAP push (usually over SMS) to the recipient handset. The receiving handset then makes a GPRS connection to retrieve the MMS message content from the MMSC.

Does that help answer your question?

Yes.

BN, I have the evaluation version from NowSMS and, why I cannot send an image (or a sound) from my handset to another. Is there a specific configuration to do in my NowSMS MMSC?

Thank you for your quick response.

Hi Marcelo,

Let's start with sending an MMS message to the phone from the web interface of NowSMS. Is that working? (If not, what happens?)

If that is working, are there any entries in the MMSC-yyyymmdd.LOG file when you attempt to send an MMS message from your handset?

Did you define user accounts on the MMSC? (Note that if you only have one user account defined, try defining another. There is a bug that sometimes after you define your first user account, NowSMS has trouble reading that account until a second account is defined.)

Did you configure the mobile phone to send through the NowSMS MMSC?

Let me know, and we'll figure out how best to proceed.
