I'm using M1203B Wavecom modem(with firmware above version 5). I can send SMS via the NowSMS interface but has problem when sending MMS. The GPRS settings from my Maxis(Telco) are as below: Homepage: http://172.16.74.100:10021/mmsc GPRS access point: net IP address: 202.075.133.049 User Name: maxis Password: wap I can send/receive MMS with a Nokia phone by entering the above setting. However when i plug the sim card to the Wavecom modem, it failed. The failed details are as below: Scenario 1: Has tried connect GPRS via the AT+Command from HyperTerminal. The result is: AT+CGATT=1 AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","net" AT+CGQREQ=1,0,0,3,0,0 Result for these 3 AT are OK but when i enter AT+CGACT=1,1 it return Error. Scenario 2: NowSMS web interfaces (MMSCRouting>TestConnection AND SMSC>ModemConnection>MMSSettings>TestConnection) which return "Connection Failed". Kindly refer attached files. My questions: 1) What is the speed should i set for the modem? (9600 or 115200 or 19200) As refer to Wavecom GPRS User Guide, i should install the modem with 19200 and then set the max. speed to 115200 (at ControlPanel>Modem setting) 2) I have called the Telco to confirm the APN is 'net' and the WAP ip address, why it still return Error when i tested with AT+CGACT=1,1? (but when using Mobile Phone, the GPRS connection works fine) 3) Why the NowSMS web interfaces (MMSC and SMSC) return the "Connection Failed"? Which value should i debug? Hi, I'd like to take a look at a debug log from the gateway. Create a file named MMSWAP.INI in the NowSMS directory, and put the following content in that file: [MMSWAP] Debug=Yes Exit the NowSMS configuration program. Then go back into it, and try to connect again. After this attempt, there will be a file named MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG present in the NowSMS directory. I would like to see the content of this file. To answer your specific questions: 1.) Whatever speeds your modem supports is fine. Using the 19200 driver, and setting the modem speed to 115200 should be fine with the Wavecom modem. 2.) We do not use the AT+CGACT command, so I can't comment on that. (That's why I'd like to see the MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG.) 3.) Let's take a look at the MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG, and see if that gives us any clues. -bn | |||||||

There is an unusual error code in that log. We are using Windows dial-up networking to initiate a GPRS connection, and the error code being returned is "hardware failure". I've got a few ideas for what could be going wrong, and some additional troubleshooting suggestions. First, I'm wondering if GPRS access is enabled for your SIM. Can you put the SIM card into a phone, and can the phone actually make GPRS connections to the "net" APN? Second, I'm wondering if perhaps we're running into a Wavecom firmware problem. Over in this thread (http://support.nowsms.com/discus/messages/12/2052.html), someone indicates that they found information that firmware v5.20 or higher is required for proper GPRS support on Wavecom modems, and their problems were solved after updating to v5.34. However, in their case, the AT+CGDCONT command was failing, whereas you are getting further than them. Try going into HyperTerminal, and issue the following command: ATD*99# You should get back a "CONNECT" ... what happens? | |||||||

Dear Bryce, I think that's not the SIM problem coz I already activated the GPRS access and I managed to make GPRS connection to the "net" APN when I put the SIM card into a phone. About the wavecom firmware problem, I went to HyperTerminal and issued this command: AT+CGMR I got: 641_09gg.Q2406B 1328940 111903 18:23 The firmware is high enough for GPRS support. Actually, I tried to configure the modem by refering to the wavecom GPRS User Guide ver1.3. 1. Getting attached -retrieve firmware with: AT+CGMR result: 641_09gg.Q2406B 1328940 111903 18:23 -check whether the MS is GPRS attached: AT+CGREG? result: +CGREG:0,1 (means MS is attached) 2.Defining a Packet Data Protocol context -define PDP context: AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","net" result: OK 3.Defining a Quality of Service profile -define QoS: AT+CGQREQ=1,0,0,3,0,0 result: OK 4.Activating a session w/o transferring data -activate session: AT+CGACT=1,1 result: ERROR So, my configuration stopped at step 4 and got no idea to troubleshoot the problem. Ok. That looks encouraging. Let's try to see what is really happening when Windows generates that "hardware failure" error code, as it certainly looks like there's not a hardware problem. Go into the Windows Control Panel, Phone & Modem Options. Bring up the Modems list, select the modem driver, and press Properties. On the Diagnostics page, check "Append to log". Try to add the connection in NowSMS again. Then go back and view the log file that the Windows modem driver creates. (There is a "View Log" button next to the "Append to Log" checkbox in the previous step.) Could you post the content of that log file, and the content of the MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG from that same test period? -bn | |||||||

 Connection test OK!!! Actually I didnt make any changes & now it manage to connect!!! here I attach the MMSWAPDEBUG.LOG & ModemLog for your references. After the connection test success, I tried to do the other setting on MMSC & tested to send an MMS but failed. I tested to send an SMS but failed also. (before this OK) What should I do to check the error? Here, i attach the setting. Can you please check for me is the setting correct? Thank you so much!!!

You're definitely close. I'd suggest changing Maxis to be the default route on the "MMSC Routing" page. Either that, or add "60*" and "0*" to the "route messages to this account for recipient(s)" field. For example, "+60*,60*,0*". From what I see in the logs, the messages are being submitted without a "+". So NowSMS is attempting to deliver them via direct delivery (using MMS notifications over SMS). I'm not sure why SMS would no longer be working. The SMSOUT log would likely have some information (the SMSWEB log is included above, but that just shows submissions, not the actual sending out). | |||||||
