Hi,

I just installed the NowSMS server and using the Sony Ericsson MD300. I have install the patch per the instructions here: http://blog.nowsms.com/2009/09/send-and-receive-sms-and-mms-with.html

When I send a basic text SMS, it works just fine. But when I try to send a WAP Push or an XML settings doc the request does not get out of the Outbound message queue - it is stuck in a retry loop. Here is what i see in the details of the message in the queue:

BTW - the modem keeps flashing blue when the retry is occurring. Also, if I send a text message in parallel, that message gets delivered.

Hi Sundeep,

That is very unusual.

There are some Motorola phones that have problems sending binary messages, but I've used the SonyEricsson MD300, and it doesn't have any problems in this area.

One thing that I would suggest trying is editing the SMSGW.INI file, and under the [SMSGW] section header, add the following statement:

BinaryDCS=4

Restart the NowSMS service after making this change, and send a new WAP Push message as this setting will not effect any messages that are already in the queue.

Some operators don't allow DCS=F5 (and some don't allow DCS=4).

I also recall an issue in Australia where one of the mobile operators would not allow any WAP Push messages to be submitted via a GSM modem. I can't find details about that now, but is there any chance you're in Australia? What mobile operator SIM is in the modem?

Thanks Des for your response. I am in the US and using ATT. Any known issues with ATT?

I will retry with the BinaryDCS setting = 4 and update with the findings.

Des,

I am unable to find the SMSGW.ini file. The original version i installed was: v2009.07.09 and the patch is 2009.12.08

I have looked in the Program Files/NowSMS folder and all the sub folders here. I cant find the SMSGW.ini

Also, I am having problems with the license. Every time I start the Now SMS Gateway application, it states that my license has expired. I have downloaded this just yesterday. I am basically stuck right now. Please advice.

Hi Sundeep,

SMSGW.INI is in the ProgramData\NowSMS directory when installed on Windows 7, 2008, 2003 or Vista.

I'm investigating the trial version expired issue, as we've had several reports of this in the past week.

I'm also investigating the AT&T issue. I found a reference to a customer that was having a similar problem with WAP Push on AT&T last year ... they indicated that they found a solution to the problem, but did not elaborate ... I am attempting to contact them directly for the information.

Des,

I made some progress with SMS Lite because of the License issue with the regular Now SMS server.

I was able to send out a WAP push message using a TMobile SIM but it did not work with the ATT SIM. Also, I could not receive the WAP push message on a handset with ATT SIM. If there is a workaround for ATT please let me know.

My ultimate goal is to send out XML configuration settings to my users in India.

Thanks,
Sundeep

Hi Sundeep,

We identified the trial expired problem, the previous trial license key expired and was granting only single day trials for new installations. The download files have been updated to address this problem.

I'm afraid that I don't have any good news regarding AT&T and WAP Push. I followed up with one of our customers who had indicated that they were having problems with WAP Push on AT&T last year. They were able to find a work-around, however their work-around stopped working in late January.

It appears that AT&T is intentionally blocking mobile originated WAP push messages.

Even when they were allowing them, there was no cross-operator WAP Push support in the United States, so you could not send a WAP Push from AT&T to T-Mobile or vice versa.

You should be able to do your testing with sending from T-Mobile to T-Mobile.

However, you may find similar issues with cross operator WAP Push in India when you move your application there.

In most countries, cross operator WAP Push works ok ... except in countries where there is a mix of GSM and CDMA operators (like North America and India). When there is a mix of GSM and CDMA operators, binary messages like WAP Push are usually corrupted or lost even when going from GSM to GSM.

Thanks Des for your support. I am going to have to rework my approach based on this information.
