Hi We are facing slow MMS sending. As previously it was running fine suddenly its gets slow done. We are using modem for sending MMS messages over 60MPM license and right now we are hardy getting 1MPM. Please suggest as its really very urgent. Thanks | |||

Hi, I believe you already spoke with Keith, and I have been consulting with him on your issues. I am confused as to why performance would drop, if it was previously meeting expectations, but I am wondering if perhaps the previous performance was with smaller MMS messages. Looking at the debug logs you forwarded, NowSMS is not throttling the MMS throughput in this case. The delays seem to be due to network performance. The section of the long that I analyzed shows performance varying between 10-20 MPM sending 240KB messages over a 3G modem, with occasional transmission timeouts. That is actually pretty good performance for a single 3G modem. Note that a smaller message size would increase the speed at which the network can accept messages, and therefore increase message throughput. I would recommend switching to multiple Android devices as modems to increase throughput. For architectural reasons, multiple USB modems will not increase MMS capacity in a linear proportion. In other words, adding a 2nd USB modem will not double MMS performance (but it will come close to doubling SMS performance). A 2nd USB modem will increase MMS performance by about 20%. Using Android devices as modems for sending MMS offers much better performance, especially with multiple modems. A single Android device will usually be slightly faster for sending MMS than a USB modem, because our app on the Android device can manage some tasks faster than over a USB modem interface. However, when adding multiple Android devices, MMS performance scales in a linear proportion, subject to cell tower and operator network capacity. 3 to 5 devices would probably be required to meet capacity requirements, based on the network performance seen in the log. If LTE is available, less devices would be required, as transmission speeds and latency are much better. -- Des NowSMS Support |
