hi,
i just want start project that allow users at my company to send sms/mms over our own gateway (before i purchased full version of NowSMS as our gateway), my question is :
1. if i use my cellphone as modem, is that mean i must pay for each sms/mms that sent over my gateway (billed in my mobile number)?
2. if i'm connected to internet, is that i only need NowSMS as gateway then i can send sms over the world (i mean no need GSM MODEM or another SMS GATEWAY), only using SMPP that NowSMS provided?
3. Said that i use Siemens ME45 as GSM Modem, i put my SIM but with $0 in my account, is i can still sent SMS/MMS using NowSMS?

thank you

1. If you use a cellphone as a modem, you pay for each SMS/MMS sent over the gateway, billed to your mobile number.

2. NowSMS is not a bulk SMS service provider. You need a subscription to a service provider, or a GSM modem, in order to do anything useful with NowSMS.

3. No. In most parts of the world you are not charged to receive a message, but you are charged for sending.

NowSMS is not a replacement for an SMS service provider.

NowSMS is a middleware tool for SMS, which among other features, can be used to manage connections to one or more service providers; or to manage receiving SMS messages; or to perform message formatting for advanced message types such as WAP push, MMS, etc.

If i have a few.. well many gsm modems to run a company that would send sms and mms messages, how do i make it so that they all run off the same acount, meaning all connected to thew same computer as well as all gsm modems are using the same sim card.

OR, do you know of any powerfull GSM modem that could send maybe 100 messages a minute ?

AND i got another question, i understand that this is not an accuall service provider, meaning you only provide the softwar. no hardware,, but if i dont want to buy the modems or use my phone because it gets kinda expensive, do you know of any good service providers that can send mms and sms messages as well as WAP push.. ?

thank you

I'm not aware of any solutions that can run multiple GSM modems off a single SIM card. (I have heard of one German operator who has introduced a solution to run up to 3 phones off the same phone number, but I don't know how this would effect GSM modems, and I haven't noticed any other operators talking about this type of service.)

You can connect multiple GSM modems to the same PC.

And, you can get 30 to 45 messages per minute over a GSM modem if the operator supports SMS over GPRS.

If you're sending high volumes, I wouldn't recommend using GSM modems (except possibly for receiving messages), unless you have a really good rate for SMS from your mobile operator.

I don't recommend any particular SMS service providers. But I generally prefer providers that offer SMPP connections. SMPP is a protocol specific to SMS, and it therefore gives you more control over the types of messages that you can send. When you talk to SMS service providers, it is best not to confuse them with questions about WAP push and MMS, instead focus on whether or not they support binary SMS and UDH (user data header). As long as they can handle the binary messages, the rest is just an issue of the content of the binary SMS message and the provider doesn't need to be concerned with that.
