Hi! Been testing the gateway a while now, i am able to recieve sms using various phone models (z600, t610 etc), but i am not able to recieve mms at all. the mms pops up on the phone but the gateway will not process the messages. What is wrong? Can it be that the phones i have tried using as gprs-modem, wont support this function? Thanks

Hi Tobias, This is one of the limitations of using a phone as a modem. The MMS client on the phone always intercepts the the MMS notification message that arrives over SMS ... so it is never presented to NowSMS over the modem interface. Basically, you need a dedicated GSM modem device (Siemens MC35, Nokia 3x, Multitech, iTegno, Sierra Aircard, etc.) instead of a phone in order to do this. -bn

Got it working using a SonyEricsson K700. But with some limitations though. I am able to recieve mms, but the problem occurs when i try to send two or more mms at the same time, the solution with a phone is not very good since it can only recieve one mms at a time, and if another mms is sent during the processing, that mms will end up in the phone itself. Looking at another solution using MMSC instead. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi Tobias, I'm actually surprised that you are able to receive an MMS over the modem interface using the SonyEricsson K700 as a modem. But I can see what you mean. It looks like it is possible for NowSMS to grab the MMS notification before the MMS client sees it with that particular device. That is interesting, but unfortunately you run into problems with the mode switching where we have to switch over to GPRS to fetch the MMS content ... and we can't access new MMS notifications during that time ... meaning that the MMS client will see them first. Unless there is some way to disable the MMS client (which I am not aware of), the only solution is a dedicated GSM modem device, such as the ones I mentioned in my previous post. -bn |
