Hi Bryce,

I hope you are well.

I am having 2 different issues with 2 different Samsung phones and both with the Multimedia WAP Push service message.

The E700  Even though users have 7MB of space and the JAR file I am send them is only 100K they keep getting the error message “Document too large for available memory”. Any ideas if there is a phone setting that needs to be changed there ?

The D500  When the user tries to download the game they get an error message that the phone does “not support content”. Here again.. a setting that they need to change ?

Thanks so much as always in advance

Cheers

Hi Clint,

Some mobile operator WAP gateways limit the size of WAP downloads, and you might be running into such a limit.

Sometimes phones also have a limit on the size of an object that they will download.

Have you tried with other phones connected to the same mobile operator?

I'm just wondering if it is phone specific, or an issue with the specific operator's gateway.

It's always difficult to determine where the problem is in such a situation. What I usually try to do is download a copy of our WAP gateway (www.nowwap.com), and try configuring the phone to connect to our gateway instead. If there are still problems, we can look at the debug log and see what's going on at the WAP level ... which will tell us if it the device that is limiting the size.

Hi Bryce,

Thanks so much for the info..

It must definitely be at a phone level as we have distributed that same JAR file plenty of times and through the same Network Provider that the 2 users are going through.

How do I access the Debug Log or do I have to make the client go through the WAP Gateway to see this ?

Thanks as always for the help

Cheers

Hi Clint,

You have to make the client go through a different WAP gateway in order to access such a debug log. So it can be a bit difficult to arrange.

I did look at the UAProf for the E700:

http://wap.samsungmobile.com/uaprof/SGH-E700.xml

Unfortunately, it is not clear on what the download size limitation is for the device. But it does state 81920 as a limit on MMS. And with quite a few devices, the MMS size limit matches the object size limit.

The D500, on the other hand, declares 307200 as its size limit.

http://wap.samsungmobile.com/uaprof/SGH-D500.xml

So I would not expect it to have any issues.

I'm not sure what to suggest. Perhaps as a test, try sending a JAD that points to a JAR download. Perhaps the phone is expecting to go through that type of process to download?

(the original question is: You cant download a JAR file to your D500.)

Send it a new Service Message (SI) BUT to and local JAD and not to the JAR.

In the JAD is the needed information to the download of the JAR file.
