I am wanting to build an enterprise grade solution for accepting and posting sms's about 150,000 per month in and also 150,000 out as replies. What advice can people give me about the hardware configuration ?? From my research a gsm modem should be able to handle this, maybe two for some load balance. I wonder what peoples thoughts are on this ? Also what about actual GSM modem hardware ... the ones i see on various sites ie Siemens MC35iT seem to do the job but how would they go sitting in a server room ?? James | |||

Hi James, I think I'd look at using an SMS service provider for the outbound messaging. My thinking here is that you'd be able to handle peak times better ... and probably get a better rate. If you want to support mobile originated replies back to the messages that you send, you would need to have an SMS service provider that allowed you to put your modem's phone number as the sender of the message. Generally speaking, it's not a problem having inbound and outbound messages going through different paths. How the modem does in a server room really depends on GSM signal strength at the location, and whether or not you need to go with a more powerful external antenna. -bn | |||
