Hi there,

We are currently running v2020.01.15 and appear to be having some issues with high CPU usage on one of our SMS servers.

Prior to this upgrade, we appeared to have more activity through our SMSGW than this month however now the CPU usage is higher. Our monitoring system shows that at the majority of the time the CPU is sitting at 95%

We haven't made any adjustments to the delivery of NowSMS or any changes to the SMS gateway, we aren't sure what could be this cause.

We haven't got the SMSDebug log option enabled as this can often cause high CPU load.

Can you please provide some assistance on what could be causing this?

Many thanks
Jordan

Follow-up: We have been working directly with Jordan to investigate this issue, but I wanted to post some advice for others who might be experiencing a similar issue.

We are investigating an issue with the “priority” queue in recent releases. There is an SMS user account attribute labeled "Send messages for this user with high priority". This setting seems to be causing performance issues if there are a large number of messages queued with priority. Restarting the service temporarily resolves this problem. If this issue is encountered, we recommend editing all "SMS User" accounts in NowSMS and disabling "Send messages for this user with high priority"...or using it only for select accounts whose messages need to be dispatched prior to any bulk SMS.

This was not the issue for the problem described in this thread. This problem is still under investigation.

This particular server is rather heavily loaded. It has several hundred outbound SMPP SMSC connections enabled. We have advised that if this server is running in a VM with only a single CPU, additional CPU resources would be recommended. We are also investigating an update with optimized performance to lower CPU usage for configurations with many outbound SMPP SMSC connections. I will try to remember to post follow-up.
